As many of you have seen over the past 24 hours, the destruction in the western part of North Carolina is beyond imaginable. It is impossible to put words to many of the images and videos being posted online and broadcast in the news.

Boone and Watauga County have a special connection to Occoneechee as four members of the Ray Family that owns Occoneechee are graduates of Appalachian State University in Boone. We still maintain deep ties with the community. Many of our customers are graduates of ASU and are teachers, bankers, and professionals in the Triangle Area.,

Beginning Sunday, September 29th, we are going to have a small enclosed trailer in the parking lot at Occoneechee. We’re going to do our best to fill that trailer with non-perishable supplies to take to Watauga County and we are asking for your help.

Currently there is a boil water advisory and supplies of bottled water are extremely limited, so that is an important item. Folks need tons of sanitation supplies such as paper towels, cleaner, mops and buckets. Any kind of personal hygiene products would be appreciated as well. DOG and CAT food are important as PETS are silent victims.

If there is anything that you feel moved to donate, your efforts will be greatly appreciated.

VERY IMPORTANT – We are not asking for and cannot accept cash or other monetary donations. If you are inclined to donate this way, please consider Samaratin’s Purse (which is located in Boone) or the American Red Cross. Both are providing support for displaced families and folks in need.
