Passing of James “Jim” Ray

Members and Friends,

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Occoneechee Golf Club owner James Ray. Many of you knew him as Jim, some lucky ones even knew him as Jimmy.

In declining health for the last few months, Jim passed peacefully with family by his side at Duke Hospital on January 8, 2026.  Occoneechee was a proud project for Jim's father Marvin, and became Jim's life's work since 1971.
