Longtime Member and President of the Occoneechee Golf Association and more recently Morning Pro Shop Attendant, Mike Baker passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024.
Mike has been an integral part of Occoneechee for many years. We offer our condolences to his Wife Sharon and Brother Mel, as well as their extended family, which includes “THE GROUP”. Jerry “Mike” Michael Baker, Sr. Obituary
Jerry Michael “Mike” Baker, Sr., 73, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at his home in Mebane. He was born in Durham County to the late Etheridge Baker and Henrietta Moseley Baker. In addition to his parents, Mr. Baker is predeceased by his brothers, Robert “Rab” Baker, and Bill Baker.
Mike was employed by UNC-Chapel Hill with the University, and in later years with UNC-Chapel Hill Hospitals. During this time, he was also co-owner of Oscar’s Billiard Lounge located in Timberline Shopping Center in Chapel Hill. He has been a proud member of the Occoneechee Golf Association in Hillsborough for 20 years. Mike took great pride in working with the NC Special Olympics, and The Chapel Hill Police Dept in their fund-raising events.
Mike deeply loved his family, his wife, Sharon, of 32 years, their crazy dog, Daisy, and their FRAMILY, and his hundreds of friends he’s been fortunate to call that all of his life. You know who you are!! Grandpa LOVED his grandbabies – ALL nine of them! To his golf buddies – he loved all of you very much – and told Sharon to tell you – LULAB – I’ll see you on the first tee!!
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Sharon Lee Baker; son, Jerry Michael (Janemarie) Baker, Jr.; grandchild, Margaret “Maggie” Murphy Baker; step-daughter, Patricia Lee Sandoval and husband Mel; step-grandchildren; Amanda C. Purcell and husband Tanner and Brandon S. Bullock; 4 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and brothers, Mel (Linda Brosius) Baker, and Brad Baker. Framily Robin, Lee Ann, Tyler, Catherine, Claire, Tori, Robert and Vivienne, and beloved dog Daisey Mae.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, August 27th at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham. A visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, August 26th at Clements Funeral Home.
